New York Pride Parade 2019

Image
This year, I was privileged to march with the New York Buddhist Church . We marched for equality and inclusiveness. The parade was led by Matthew Shepard's parents. Everyone's presence was appreciated, especially since the fight for marriage equality is all but won, yet these last couple of years have seen the rate of hate crimes against the LGBTQI community increase tremendously. Anyway, we had a wonderful time, the sangha and I. Please enjoy these snapshots of our pre-parade moments... Namo Amida Butsu...

Putting On The Ritz.

I may be homeless and am eating out of rubbish bins, but manky I am not: in fact, I have a praised history of hosting and a reputation for putting out a fantastic spread for guests, hence the following suggestion to my millionaire+ friends out there: Whether for yourself as a party of one, or for you and a several person soiree, try putting on the Sugarcubes (CD or mp3), and enjoy (alone, but preferably with a few others), fermented shark and shots of aquavit. Please drink responsibly, and mind your and your friends' limits! (The poorer among us can enjoy a similar effect with mouldering shaved Parmesan, esp. if it's got that ammonia sting, and some damned man's vodka such as Georgi or Royal Gate.) Activities might include Uno, a game of 'truth or dare,' or comparing and competing among each other on Instagram or Flickr...

It Keeps Getting Better

There's been NASA's simulated manned mission to Phobos (wow!) Now, episodes of #thedamagedgirlshow is in its fourth episode @william.robert.way on Instagram. I feel like Precious with a bucket of stolen fried chicken!

Overjoyed

I've posted across four platforms, but I just wanted to share with you here that today, via Japanese news, NASA has just completed a 45 day simulation of a manned mission to Phobos, largest Martian moon, in a mock-up spacecraft. Everybody, for me this is huge and has made my day super. Let me explain: for a few short years now, I have been the only one on the WWW and therefore in public advocating the exploitation and colonization of Phobos using existing technologies and a spacecraft (the Intrepid) built mostly of off-the-shelf components. I've strenuously promoted Project Timorous for some time on my Tumblr account ... And now? It's on NASA's radar - success, Deedee! (Besides my proposal and pocket mission architecture, I find really only the good Pascal Lee's white paper, which makes a fine, reasoned case for trekking to the Martian moon, and for which I owe him thanks.) So yes, I might be mental and homeless, but I am apparently QUITE EFFECTIVE! O, FR...

Public Service Announcement

We were packed cheek to jowl this morning on the 4 train bound for Manhattan. She was wearing that New York uniform of baseball cap, hoop earrings, dark clothes... Her hair tied up in the back... Suddenly, when we were about to hit 86th Street Station, she dropped, fainting. To their credit, the fellow New Yorkers caught her under her armpits, eased her fall, and turned her around to a sitting position. (I for my kept my hand palm open at the ready behind her back were it to have fallen to me to assist the folks catching her.) Folks, if this happens in front of you, hopefully it goes well the way it did this morning. Everyone was spot on - even her; after coming to, she disembarked at the next stop and took a seat on the bench, while I offered to call 911. (She assured me that she was fine, and I went on my way...) So if someone falls, and is unresponsive, do not move them - very important. Rather, stay with them and call for help (or, if you lack a phone, delegate finding help t...

Two New York Classics and One Cupertino Misfire

Image
Short Walks on Long Island: ... As for New York classic Spike Lee, I was starstruck to see him step onto the curb right in front of me in the East Village late last month. Wow! (Speaking of which, his joint, SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT, is streaming only on Netflix. You dig?) ... I am a Bay Area native, and unduly proud to have been, many times, An Apple person. I played 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?' often on the IIe, cut my teeth on Web 2.0 content generating at PlanetOut on a Mac, and only recently was deprived of my iPad by members of the Guild of Thieves. This morning, though, when needing wifi, I stood outside the window of the Apple store on 5th Avenue as staff inside were well into beginning their shifts. Unfortunately, the wifi seems not to be offered to the peanut-crunching crowd until later - maybe at opening. Chintzy, Woz - real chintzy, man!

Levi's Store, Times Square

Image
This one is, on two floors, the bigger and badder site (in contrast to the lower Broadway shop.) All the latest from Levi Strauss can be had - there is even the patch and embroidery stand in the back of the first floor: have your new purchases customized and unique-ified. (And oh, how I deserve a distressed, classic jean jacket sporting tabako wo suu onna.)

'Diagnosed: Bipolar II, Schizoaffective, Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, HIV' 'Sup, New York City? I arrived here in October of last year to escape mistreatment in my native California, to access superior services, and to make a better life for myself, a life better than before, in which I might prove myself to be more than a list of diagnoses - greater than some mere case study. So anyway, I'm here, making a go of it, doing my best like so many here, and I have to remark on recent news: ugly violence, particularly in Queens and the Bronx... An older gentleman beaten horribly, two people wounded in a shooting, some asshole opening fire on a school... I wish it would be happier than it is. I come from San Francisco, a city I agree is notorious for ugly behavior and inexcusable violence - muggings, rapes, too many (unsolved, no less) murders. A place many would like to escape. Yes, it's rough all over, I'm finding. Not really wanting to get too deep...

Out of Character: Happy Birthday To Me: My 'Golden Dream'

Image
(NEAREST STARS - IMG COURTESY OF SPACE.COM) My ‘Golden Dream’ or 'Golden Plan’ proposes three near-simultaneous 'one shot’ manned missions to the four stars nearest Earth for the sake of establishing permanent, self-sufficient colonies in orbit around each of those stars. Colonists would exploit and launch asteroids from here, and also use resources found at the destinations to build massive ring-shaped or toroidal habitats in the Goldilocks Zones of Alpha Centauri A and B, of Proxima Centauri, and of Barnard’s Star.

Second Jocelyn W. sighting in six months! I motioned to her slowly in ASL as her cab pulled off down 5th Avenue, and I hope she saw! *Squee*! Anyway, photography: Main Library lion Pansies Bulgari Mikimoto (I once visited Mikimoto Pearl Island - even got to meet the 'ama,' the women divers who can stay under for five minutes!) 30 Rockefeller - hiya, Tina Fey! March tulips trip me out in a good way! Daffodils across America! Wow! Look at the time! Central Park South New York continues to grow... Renaissance studliness at the Frick - woof!
